She graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1949, then worked at the Bald Eagle Dairy and Sylvania while raising her younger siblings after the death of her mother. When she worked at the Dairy, she met Bob Allison who, along with his brother, Roy, was delivering pies for his mother. In the early years of the church, when it was in Vilas Park, Joann played the mandolin in the church orchestra.
Bob and Joann owned and operated Allison Industries, Inc. (formerly ATG Tool Co.) for 32 years; Joann was the financial officer and kept everyone straight at the "big house". In her spare time, Joann liked to do ceramics with her friend, Delores Yohe; have Saturday morning tea with friends (Connie Allison, Mary McKean, and her daughters); attend church and all its functions; and travel with Bob to Europe, to family in the States, and to business, family and church events.
Joann is survived by two daughters: Starr (David) Norman of Delmar, NY, and Cynthia (Ronald)Bennett, Jersey Shore, PA; seven grandchildren: Kathryn (Christopher) Tomlin, Schenectady, NY; Julie (Bruno) Bosman, Baarn, Netherlands; Thomas (Amanda) Norman, Albany, NY; Benjamin (Lynnsay) Erskine, Dover, DE; Kaia Erskine, Williamsport, PA; and Allison (JT) Woods, Manheim, PA. She is also survived by granddaughter-in-law, Natasha (Brent) Dongell and twelve great-grandchildren: Charlotte Tomlin, Jonathan Tomlin; Lily Bosman; Isabella Norman, Andrew Norman, Faye Norman; Scott Erskine, Brieanna Erskine; Roya Dongell, Alea Dongell; David-Evan Erskine and Apphia Erskine.
In addition to her husband and parents, Joann was predeceased by brothers, Weston Sample, Vernon Sample, Harry Jones, and Ronald Jones; by sisters, Vivian Hamm, Volaria Engle, Marilyn Bitner, and Enid Romaine Fetterolf; by grandson Lynn Robert Erskine; and by great-granddaughter Emma Rose Norman.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024 at 11 am in Lighthouse Wesleyan Church, 220 High St, Jersey Shore, PA with the Rev Mark Erskine officiating. A viewing will be held in the church on Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 6 to 8 pm. Final interment will be held at Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven.
